What Is The Difference Between Mbus Ultrasonic Water Meter & RS485 Ultrasonic Water Meter

    In the application of remote meter reading, Mbus ultrasonic water meter and RS485 ultrasonic water meter are both mature and widely used products. Mbus ultrasonic water meter is mainly used in household systems, also known as residential ultrasonic water meter, which can solve the problem of multi node and long-distance communication; RS485 ultrasonic water meter is mainly used in industrial control systems, suitable for scenarios with few nodes, short distances, and standardized wiring. Two types of ultrasonic water meters have their own characteristics, and in practical use, Mbus ultrasonic water meters and RS485 ultrasonic water meters can be selected based on their respective characteristics and usage scenarios.

Characteristics of Mbus ultrasonic water meters:

    1. The Mbus water meter adopts Mbus bus communication, which is a two wire system with convenient wiring and no need to distinguish polarity; Bus powered, terminal devices do not require separate power supply;

    2. The bus has strong fault tolerance and will not be paralyzed due to interface issues with a terminal. When the number of interface issues with a terminal reaches one-third of the total number of terminals, it can also ensure normal communication of terminal devices without interface faults;

    3. The bus communication used by Mbus water meters can form star, linear, and tree network structures;

    4. Strong anti-interference ability, no shielded wire can be used for on-site wiring, and the wiring cost is low;

    5. In short distance communication, the transmission rate is average and can reach 20Kb;

    6. The Mbus bus has strong load capacity, with a single bus load of up to 256;

    7. The application of Mbus bus communication is later than that of RS485 bus communication, and is less commonly used in the field of industrial automation, but more widely used in the field of civilian meter reading;


Characteristics of  RS485 ultrasonic water meter:

    1. The RS485 water meter adopts RS485 bus communication, which is a four wire system, and the signal line needs to distinguish polarity; The bus cannot supply power to terminal devices, and terminal devices need to be powered separately;

    2. Poor fault tolerance of the bus can lead to bus paralysis due to interface issues with a few terminal devices;

    3. RS485 bus communication adopted by RS485 water meters can only form a linear network structure;

    4. The anti-interference ability is average, and shielded wires are required for on-site wiring, resulting in high wiring costs;

    5. In short distance communication, the transmission rate is fast and can reach 10Mb;

    6. The load capacity of the RS485 bus is average. In order to ensure the quality of communication, a single on-site bus load is generally not more than 30pcs;

    7. The application history of RS485 bus communication is relatively long, and it is commonly used in the field of industrial automation, but it is rarely used in the field of civilian meter reading.
